Looking for more reasons to use that grill while we still have these lovely summer days? How about trying it for dessert? Let me know what you think about this Grilled Banana Splits Recipe in the comments.
6 unpeeled bananas, (ripe but not overly so)
3 – (2.16 oz.) Snickers bars
Vanilla Ice cream
Heavy Duty aluminum foil, (4 appropriately sized sheets)
With a sharp knife, cut a lengthwise wedge out of each banana, slicing through the peel.
Remove a portion of the banana to carve out a ½ inch trough through the length of the banana.
Slice each candy bar lengthwise as well.
Insert one of the Snickers’ slices into the banana trough, pushing it firmly into the banana. Add half a dozen or so mini-marshmallows into the trough along with the candy bar slice.
Replace the peel wedge on the banana.
Repeat with the remaining bananas.
Make a double-lined pouch for the bananas using the aluminum foil sheets and seal.
Grill pouch on medium to medium-high heat for 5 to 10 minutes. The banana “split” is done when the fruit is hot and the candy bar and marshmallows are melted. (You will have to “experiment” on your grill to perfect the timing.)
Remove banana from the peel and place into appropriate serving vessel.
Top with ice cream and hot fudge. Serve immediately.
